Baseball concessions are a rip off, but they are at most entertainment venues. Look at what it costs for popcorn at a movie. I do like the fact that some theaters are now letting you bring in your own cokes. You can do that at baseball games and it’s a good way to save money.

Good point Mike. However, the question I am trying to ask is, “Why does society accept these prices as the norm?” I agree with you that movie theaters allowing the consumption of pre-bought concessions is fantastic, I was getting sick of spending double the amount I spent on the movie ticket on food and drinks.

Unfortunately, society accepts these prices because they consider it to be “fair” gien the occasion. One might also consider that most people don’t know they can bring their own food to the game. It IS a complete ripoff, but as long as people are willing to pay for it, it will continue to be high. To use another economics term, it seems that the food at the ballpark is a highly elasic commodity and people are willing to pay these prices until it reaches that breaking point. But shockingly it hasn’t happened yet.
